Waste Act Strategy for Reducing Food Losses and Waste: Comments invited
It is estimated that about 12.6 million tonnes of food is wasted every year in South Africa, ending up in landfills even before it can end up in your shopping trolley.
All this while, 13 million children live in poverty and approximately 60% of South African households are food insecure.
Minister for Environment has recently released the Draft Strategy for Reducing Food Losses and Waste in terms of s72 and 73 of the National Waste Act 59 of 2008.
Members of the public have until 20 October 2023 to submit comments and/or objections regarding the strategy.
