Non-Profits in Action
The Environmental Changemakers Webinar Series is my way of celebrating and recognising the various environmental activists and heroes in our community.
Bronkhorstspruit - the town
I must admit, I know very little of Bronkhorstspruit. I do know that it lies a few km’s from Pretoria. I remember visiting the Nan Hua Buddhist Temple many years ago, which is sort of a tourist attraction in Bronkhorstspruit.

Bronkhorstspruit is a town 50 km east of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa along the N4 highway towards Witbank. It also includes three townships called Zithobeni, Rethabiseng and Ekangala. On 18 May 2011, the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality took over the municipal administration from the abolished Kungwini Local Municipality, which makes Bronkhorstspruit part of Tshwane. - Wikipedia
Bronkhorstspruit - the catchment
A Bronkhorstspruit Dam forms a significant part of the catchment. Established in 1950 it provides domestic and industrial water supply, as well as a range of recreational activities.
Over the years, the water quality, like the rest of South Africa, has deteriorated due to a number of environmental, social, economic and political challenges.
And so communities in Bronkhorstspruit have rallied to the challenge, resulting in the formation of the Bronkhorstspruit Catchment Forum.
The Bronkhorstspruit Catchment Management Forum
The Bronkhorstspruit Catchment Forum (BCMF) was informally established in August 2017 as a response to the poor water quality of the Bronkhorstspruit dam. A couple of years later it was formalised as a non-profit company.
New Webinar: Non-Profits in Action
This month I am hosting Cara Stokes from the Bronkhorstspruit Catchment Management Forum.
Cara Stokes, one of the directors of this Non-Profit, takes us on a tour of the BCMF, its origins, its challenges and what's in store for the future of the forum and the Bronkies Dam.
So, why don’t you join us on the 19th May 2023 where you can find out more about the forum, the Bronkies catchment and what is being done to improve water quality in this catchment.
