13 September 2024:
The Minister for Environment, Dion George, has recently adopted in terms of NEMA, the KWAZULU-NATAL PROVINCIAL WATERCOURSE INFRASTRUCTURE STANDARD AND ASSOCIATED EXCLUDED ACTIVITIES and a GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME.
This new standard will come into operation 60 days from 13 September 2024.
The standard effectively allows a number of projects requiring Basic Assessment to be excluded from the requirement of complying with the EIA Regulations and obtaining environmental authorisation.
The standard targets projects such as:
Local access road culverts, causeways and bridges
Pedestrian bridges
Water and sewer pipelines
… and yes, they could have used a much simpler heading for this standard !
The standard can be accessed from www.kznedtea.gov.za/resource-centre/legislation
